Scion Nonprofit Staffing, an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to lead the search for a Director of Development on behalf of our client, a passionate organization dedicated to funding post-secondary education opportunities, including undergraduate, graduate, professional, and career training programs. This is a full-time, hybrid role available immediately for qualified candidates based in the Greater Baltimore area.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Development will manage a portfolio of major and planned gifts ($25k+), oversee annual giving campaigns, and ensure the timely completion of corporate and foundation grant applications and reports. This person will also develop and execute strategies for sponsorships and donations tied to the organization's special events. Additional responsibilities include overseeing donor database administration and implementing a comprehensive stewardship program. The ideal candidate will excel at fostering donor relationships and effectively communicating the organization’s mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward major and planned gift donors to secure annual and multi-year commitments.
  • Supervise the development team to ensure the successful execution of fundraising initiatives, including individual, foundation, corporate, and event appeals.
  • Support the Board Development Committee with fundraising guidance, progress reports, and member engagement in programs and events.
  • Partner with the President to engage key leaders, donors, and stakeholders to advance the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Attain major gifts of $25k and above to achieve $500k annually.
  • Manage systems and software, including the donor database and wealth screening tools, to track and engage donors and prospects.
  • Develop and execute move management strategies.
  • Prepare monthly reports for management detailing activities and performance.
  • Conduct direct, face-to-face solicitations and support the Board and staff with portfolio development, strategic counsel, and donor communications.
  • Assist in managing a planned giving marketing plan, including creating materials, stewarding donors, and maintaining a planned giving recognition society.
  • Participate in professional groups and educational sessions to stay updated on current trends.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, public relations, communications, marketing, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 4 years of proven success in fundraising, including annual campaigns, major gifts, planned giving, special events, and grants management, with a track record of securing six-figure gifts.
  • Skilled in leading collaborative teams, motivating staff, engaging Board members, and fostering donor relationships.
  • Proficient in prospect research, portfolio-based moves management systems, and donor stewardship program development and administration.
  • Highly organized and adept at managing multiple priorities, using data-driven insights for strategic decisions and impact evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of development, communications, and marketing principles.
  • Skilled in reading, analyzing, and interpreting legal and financial documents, writing professional reports and correspondence, and delivering effective presentations to groups.
  • Capable of working independently while seeking guidance when needed, maintaining a professional and confidential work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates respect for diverse family lifestyles and cultural values.
  • Valid Maryland/DC driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
In addition to a competitive salary range of $95,000 to $107,000 (DOE) and a 4 day work week, the benefits package includes medical insurance, prescription drug coverage, life insurance, dental and vision plans, a Health Savings Account (HSA), and a 401(k) plan with a 3–5% employer match. Employees also benefit from vacation time, additional annual PTO, sick leave, travel reimbursement, and a monthly mobile phone stipend.
