Scion Nonprofit Staffing, a full-service national staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Finance Assistant for a nonprofit advocacy group aiming to advance democratic values for their community within the US and worldwide based in Manhattan, NYC, NY! This is a wonderful full-time, direct-hire, hybrid opportunity (Tuesday and Wednesday in office, Monday, Thursday, and Friday remote).
Reporting to the Controller, this role ensures accurate financial record-keeping, smooth transaction processing, and balanced budget operations, contributing to the organization’s mission-driven work. You'll work closely with donors, staff, and financial systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and process incoming donations (checks and shares of stock) and communicate with donors about transactions.
- Deposit checks through a remote scanner and record entries in the general ledger daily using NetSuite.
- Reconcile revenue entries between Raiser’s Edge and NetSuite to maintain alignment with bank accounts.
- Collaborate with Donor Services Assistants for large volume donation periods.
- Collect and follow up on monthly tenant rent payments, recording journal entries for received payments.
- Process income from events, mission trips, and other organizational programs.
- Assist with deferred income and reconciliations for wire transfers and other revenue streams.
- Manage petty cash reimbursements and allocate shared service charges to internal departments.
- Assist with invoicing, prepare financial reports for upper management, and provide support with financial reconciliations and journal entries.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1-2 finance/accounting experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree required, if it's in accounting or finance, that is a PLUS!
- Strong understanding or willing to learn nonprofit revenue streams, including donations, grants, and program service revenue.
- Proficiency in NetSuite CRM a PLUS!
- Donor database experience a PLUS!
- Advanced skills in MS Excel and knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Customer service-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving attitude.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This exciting career opportunity allows you to work with a passionate and thriving team! The salary range for this role is $50,000-$55,000yr. You will also be able to receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, PTO, Life Insurance, paid holidays, and 403b plan.
