Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a Part-Time Patent Lawyer for our client, a technical company seeking to enhance its intellectual property strategy. This fully remote, temporary position requires a highly skilled legal professional with a robust background in patent law and IP compliance. The role is ideal for someone who can dedicate 10-15 hours per week to support the company's patent needs, particularly in relation to the Amazon marketplace.
Summary
The Part-Time Patent Lawyer will focus on patent prosecution, IP strategy, and compliance, ensuring the protection of the company's innovations while navigating the complexities of e-commerce intellectual property.
Responsibilities

Patent Filings: Prepare, review, and file patent applications for new technologies with thorough documentation.

Patent Search & Analysis: Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments for current and upcoming projects.

Client Consultation: Collaborate with engineering and product teams to understand technical aspects and provide legal guidance.

Patent Strategy: Develop and implement strategies for protecting the company’s intellectual property, including advising on international filings.

IP Portfolio Management: Assist in managing and maintaining the patent portfolio, ensuring compliance with deadlines and requirements.

Compliance & Amazon Marketplace Risk Mitigation:

Review and revise Amazon marketplace listings to prevent IP infringement.

Develop strategies to eliminate risks related to listing copy and marketing content.

Monitor competitor listings and report any infringement on filed patents or IP.

Legal Research: Stay updated on changes in patent law and IP compliance policies affecting e-commerce, advising the team on implications.
Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Licensed to practice law in the US and registered to practice before the USPTO.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent law, preferably with technical companies or in-house legal teams.

Background in engineering, computer science, or a relevant technical field is highly preferred.

Strong understanding of patent prosecution and IP law.

Experience with IP compliance in e-commerce, particularly the Amazon marketplace.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with minimal oversight.

Excellent communication and technical writing skills.

Strong attention to detail.
Compensation & Additional Details
This temporary opportunity offers an hourly pay rate of $100/hr. The role is ideal for someone who is seeking a flexible part time schedule and can dedicate 10-15 hours per week for the next 3+ months!
