Scion Nonprofit has been engaged to conduct an immediate search to find a Head of Science Partnerships for our fantastic client – an organization dedicated to assisting with business ventures, investments, and philanthropic initiatives. The organization’s culture is centered on purposeful work, meaningful relationships, and a dedication to philanthropy. This incredible full-time, hybrid opportunity is based in Singapore and is a fantastic opportunity to help scientists and storytellers uncover the mysteries of the ocean for global exploration.
 
The ideal candidate will drive scientific and technical dialogues, evaluate proposals, and nurture relationships with scientific and university communities in the regionThis position will involve flexible working hours to accommodate meetings with stakeholders in the United States, as well as some regional travel, including to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. 
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Head of Science Partnerships will collaborate with executives across the company’s portfolio of organizations and oversee scientific and technical initiatives outside the US, with a focus on Southeast Asia. Responsibilities include: 
  • Initiate and guide scientific dialogues with university and science partners in Southeast Asia. 
  • Establish and nurture relationships with government representatives, prominent oceanographers, scientific collaborators, and other influential figures. 
  • Evaluate and assess scientific proposals, collaborating with science partners in the region for mission-related and educational initiatives. 
  • Make informed decisions regarding resource allocation for scientific missions and assist in planning activities and projects in Southeast Asia. 
  • Collaborate with the executive team to develop and expand the range of scientific offerings. 
  • Lead scientific and technical discussions at ocean-related gatherings, events, and other engagements with clients and partners. 
  • Maintain regular communication and coordination with internal science and technical teams, as well as with executives. 
  • Stay informed about the interests and initiatives of governments, science-focused NGOs, and other partners in the ocean and climate sectors. 
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Over 15 years of experience in the sciences, with established relationships at universities, governments, and NGOs. 
  • Holds a Science PhD or equivalent degree in oceanography, climate science, biological sciences, or related field. 
  • Extensive experience in business engagement and relationship development within the scientific community, governments, educational institutions, and other organizations, preferably in Southeast Asia. 
  • Proven track record in leading and managing teams and complex projects. 
  • Strong technical aptitude and familiarity with advanced technology solutions. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Based in Singapore, with a willingness to travel, primarily within Southeast Asia (e.g., Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand) and the United States. 
  • Highly independent and self-motivated. 
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and skilled at navigating partnerships in various contexts. 
  • Data-driven decision-making approach. 
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with a humble approach. 
  • Holds oneself to high standards and is results-oriented. 
  • Operates with a high level of discretion and ethical conduct.
