Scion Executive Search has been retained to lead the search for United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona’s incoming Director of Development. The exceptionally talented and driven Director of Development will play an imperative role in ensuring that the organization has strong partnerships and resources to support and further their remarkable work providing services to children and individuals with disabilities. The Director of Development oversees a highly productive development function, including maintaining positive relationships with existing philanthropic and organization partners, cultivating exciting new partnerships, and providing support to the Chief Executive Officer and leadership team in all development-related engagements.
 
Position Summary:
 
Since 1952, United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona (UCP) has served as one of the oldest private, nonprofit health and human service organizations in Arizona. The organization is expanding its executive team and is seeking a committed and ambitious individual to serve as their new Director of Development. The ideal candidate will capitalize on philanthropic opportunities previously cultivated and generate new opportunities for additional support from the community. This role will take the lead in establishing a fundraising and advancement vision (including goals, benchmarks and timelines) for organizational initiatives.
 
The dynamic leader will be a self-starter with a proven track record of success in nonprofit fundraising as well as partnership and business development. This position will be externally focused, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, and will play a key role on the executive team. This position will enable UCP to continue to generate financial support to fund programs that support children and adults with disabilities. The Director of Development will proactively manage a donor and prospect portfolio as well as work collaboratively with the executive leadership team, Board of Directors, and key stakeholders to secure transformational investments in support of the UCP’s vital mission.
 
Key Director of Development Responsibilities:
  • Create and execute a comprehensive, diverse, and sustainable development plan that includes diverse funding sources to ensure the continuation of necessary financial support for current and future programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee all fundraising avenues including major giving, grants, special events, direct mail appeals, and corporate partnerships.
  • Set short and long-term fundraising goals and establish appropriate metrics to measure performance and progress towards those goals; monitor and report on the progress of the comprehensive development strategy on a regular basis.
  • Increase internal capacity while striving to maintain and increase UCP’s financial health and its ability to fund programmatic and core priorities.
  • Conduct market research to stay abreast of emerging trends in funding sources and development while analyzing, assessing, and recommending new development plans for the programs.
  • Design and execute cost-effective marketing and outreach strategies to communicate with a range of constituencies through print and electronic campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, executive leadership, and staff members to streamline and enhance internal strategies and processes that will prioritize development needs across the organization.
  • Meet regularly with the executive leadership team and ensure that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in ways that align with UCP’s values, mission, vision, and strategic plan.
  • Work closely with leadership to establish and monitor budgets and set budgetary expectations.
  • Contribute to the development of the operating budget by working with the executive leadership team and the Board of Directors to determine program and budgetary needs.
  • Provide strong leadership, encourage and support staff to grow professionally, integrate effective feedback loops, and ensure core values are embodied in the work of the Development Department.
  • Be a confident, compassionate storyteller of UCP’s ambassador families and other internal clients that have accomplished personal growth or developmental milestones due to UCP’s initiatives, therapy programs or educational environment(s).
  • Serve as an organizational representative at conferences, meetings, and press opportunities related to development.
  • Collaborate with internal parties to masterfully and effectively communicate the importance and full scope of the organization’s work with external audiences.
  • Cultivate relationships with community members, prospective volunteers, and supporters to build awareness of and commitment to UCP’s work.
  • Create and implement a robust donor cultivation and recognition program.
  • Manage and maintain a donor database for donor contributions.
Qualifications:
  • Genuine passion and deep appreciation for helping people with disabilities reach their full potential and improve their quality of life.
  • Knowledge of pediatric and adult therapy programs, early education environments, adult day care programs or other programs as they relate to the disabled communities.
  • Experience working for a nonprofit focused on social services, healthcare, and or assisting individuals with disabilities.
  • 7 to 10+ years of demonstrated nonprofit fundraising expertise.
  • Expertise managing, coaching, and mentoring internal staff in development best practices and strategies.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. CFRE certification is a plus!
  • Compassionate, self-starter, forward-thinking professional with a positive attitude.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, donor databases, and CRM software.
  • Experience working for a nonprofit organization with an operating budget of $3 to $5M+.
  • Demonstrated track record of achieving an organization’s vision by spearheading development strategies, cultivating crucial partnerships, and expanding the reach of work.
  • Experience working with executive leadership and Board of Directors to set and achieve organizational development goals and strategies.
  • Proficient in donor database analysis to determine major donors
  • Research, maintain and analyze current and prospective donor data and pipelines.
  • Experience designing and implementing fundraising programs and campaigns.
Compensation and Benefits:
 
This exciting opportunity offers the ability to make a significant impact leading and growing an established nonprofit committed to helping children and individuals with disabilities. Starting compensation includes a competitive salary dependent on experience plus a full benefits package. Paid vacation, holidays, and sick time as well as medical, dental, vision, life, short-term disability, and pet insurance are also included. Eligibility for the 401k starts after the first month of employment. The 401K has a current match of 6% after the first year of employment or 1000 hours.
