Scion Nonprofit Staffing (www.scionnonprofitstaffing.com) has been engaged to conduct a new search for a Vice President of Advancement and Communications for our client, a nonprofit focused on addressing criminal justice issues that impact underrepresented youth. This direct-hire position is positioned between both of our client’s offices in the Bronx and Brooklyn and is available for immediate hire!

The Role:

The VP of Advancement and Communications is a pivotal senior leader in this organization focused primarily on overseeing an organizational budget of $2.5-3 million and increasing funds and unrestricted revenue for our client’s organization to advance the strategic and programmatic priorities of the organization, ensure sustainability and long-term strategic growth.

What you will be doing:

  • S/he will build out an institutional giving and corporate program.
  • Recommends cultivation strategies including advancing relationships with individuals and program officers.
  • Identifies corporate and foundation funding opportunities and recommend prospects with the greatest potential.
  • Directs peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives and collaborates with the team to build an audience through all social media platforms.
  • Produces consistent communication to donors and produces opportunities to engage donors in programs and volunteering.
  • Writes grant proposals not assigned to the grant writer consultant and take the lead to prepare materials for submission.
  • Monitors and reports regularly to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors on the progress of the development and fundraising program.
  • Directs the production of Annual Benefit (e.g., recruiting potential corporate sponsors, engaging the Host Committee and other stakeholders around fundraising, etc.).
  • Supervise 1) a full time Development and 2) a Communications Associate who will maintain records and reporting in Salesforce.

Required Capabilities and Skills:

  • BA/BS in Business Administration or related field
  • 7+ years of development, fundraising, communications, and management experience in a nonprofit setting is preferred.
  • A proven track record of securing gifts that have increased in size over time, with examples and references that can speak to your progressive increase in fundraising.
  • A deep appreciation for our client’s work, mission, and population
  • Experience in Board, committee, and volunteer management
  • Excellent project management, writing and researching skills; great attention to detail.
  • Advanced MS Office suite skills (Excel and PowerPoint); familiarity and experience using Gmail.
  • Experience using Salesforce.
  • Comfort making direct asks of individuals and corporate representatives.
  • Relevant experience working with confidential information; extremely high reliability and integrity.
  • Excellent team player and be open to working in a fluid, fast paced environment with the ability to be flexible and adjust to claiming demands.
  • Proven relationship manager and great public speaker and strategic thinker

Compensation:

$120-125k base salary, plus an excellent work environment and exciting benefits package!
