Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an experienced Development and Communications Director for a dynamic nonprofit organization based in Oakland, CA. This is an exciting direct hire and remote opportunity. The organization is committed to workforce and real estate development in East Oakland that allows this community to thrive. 

The Development and Communications Director serves as a pivotal leader within the organization. This role is responsible for leading strategic fundraising initiatives and impactful communication strategies. The Director is instrumental in securing resources and amplifying the organization’s mission through targeted communication and stakeholder engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Development & Fundraising
  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies in collaboration with the President & Founder (P&F), CEO, and CFO.
  • Secure significant gifts, grants, and individual donations to support the organization's mission.
  • Cultivate relationships with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
  • Design and manage targeted fundraising campaigns, potentially focusing on:
    • Commercial Real Estate Capital
    • Endowment and Multi-Year General Operating Funds
  • Partner with the development team to identify and steward major donors.
  • Lead grant proposal writing and manage fundraising campaigns, ensuring progress towards financial goals.
Communications & Public Advocacy
  • Craft a compelling narrative that showcases the organization's mission, vision, and impact.
  • Develop and execute a strategic communications plan to effectively reach internal and external audiences.
  • Oversee media relations, manage brand reputation, and ensure clear, consistent messaging across all communication channels.
  • Develop communication materials, including press releases, website content, and social media strategies.
  • Advocate for the organization's mission through public appearances and presentations.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and advocacy groups.
  • Develop and implement community engagement initiatives to raise awareness of the organization's work and garner support for its mission.
  • Advocate for policies and legislation that support the organization's goals.
Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor a team of development and communications professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Ensure the team has the resources and training to achieve fundraising and communication objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in development and communications, with leadership roles included.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and developing strategic communication plans.
  • Extensive experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders while building a strong donor base.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and storytelling skills, with the ability to create compelling and engaging narratives.
  • Deep understanding of the organization’s mission and expertise in translating it into effective communication strategies.
  • Proven experience leading teams of development and communications professionals.
  • Able to commute to Oakland, CA on a monthly basis for onsite team meetings. 

COMPENSATION
The annual salary range for this position is $95,000-115,000, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
